I finished my 6-week project!! The best part? I named a new born monkey Sirius!! There's a rule here that if you are the first person to discover the sex of a new born, you get to name it. All macaques born in 2008 has to have names beginning with 'S' so it was obvious what I was going to name it! Plus there was already a 'Rhemus' in the colony, so of course there must be a Sirius too XD

I'll be going off tomorrow for my primate project for 6 weeks. The hostel I'm staying at won't have internet access so I won't be around on lj much during the time. Huzzah!!! My exams finished today! My red carnation fell off my sub fusc twice before the exam, which I took to be a very ill-omen, but turned out, thankfully, to be not so ill. And now I am freeeee....
...for a total of two weeks until my primate project starts. I'll be going off to Berlin and Prague this weekend with flatmates. See you guys soon!

Presentation went well. It was in a proper seminar room and everyone has to ask a question each at the end. Eek! Luckily I managed to make decent answers (I'm making this assumption based on the fact that my tutor didn't contradict me!). Then today I found out that I have to write an essay plus make three essay plans due in for Thursday! Seriously, I have no time!! This means I only get tomorrow to do it all but I have lectures and a meeting with Deloitte to try and get them to sponser our Kendo club. Also how am I supposed to revise for finals on top of all this? Bah, crazy.

Yesterday morning there was the biggest effing spider in the sink that I've ever seen. I think I stood in the bathroom a good 10 minutes, just staring at the thing in horror whilst trying to decide what to do. It was so HUGE, I didn't want to try bashing at it since that would involve getting my hand near it, definitely didn't want to try scooping it into a cup, and was too nice to just leave it and let my flat-mate deal with it later. In the end I turned the hot-water tap on it.
THEN today as I was working on my tute, I saw another spider crawl across my desk. Scared the living daylight out of me! Also it was exactly the same kind as yesterday, only smaller. Maybe the big spider's offspring has come for revenge? I think I screamed and then hit it with my flipflops.

This is like, such an OTP of mine, even though there is nothing in fandom regarding these two. I have a scenario in my head in which Shiraishi, after playing against Fuji at the nationals, was so intruiged by his playing style and spirit that he can't get Fuji out of his mind, and thereafter becomes a little obsessed with him ~~and incidently tries to hit on him multiple times during the yakiniku party, saying he wanted to show Fuji the vigour of Osaka men.~~

Oh my god, when is OVA 20 going to come out? I really can't wait any more. I googled it and apparently you can get the subbed version of OVA 20 on torrent, but I don't know if that is the real thing and I would get banned from the uni's network if I use P2P. *frustrated*

Latest Naruto chapter is awesome as ever, but I wish Tobi/Madara would just hurry up and get on with the story! It's so maddening, all this wait and elusive hints everywhere. Aaah, I can't take it.

So this is Elspeth's usual work pattern:

1. Read research paper on hibernation, a few paragraphs at a time with intervals of doodling on the white spaces
2. Write a sentence or two
3. Google for definitions or unfamiliar terms
4. Google for non-essay related things that have popped into mind
5. Turn back to research paper and add finishing touches to doodles, then continue reading
6. Think it's about time to refresh webmail, then gets distracted by facebook messages
7. Force self back to essay, decide the wording of previous paragraph is awkward and spend a while adjusting it
8.The cycle continues, but replace 'googling for non-essay related things' with 'updating livejournal with this useless entry'

So I'm now secretary of Oxford Uni Kendo society. I had my first committee meeting last night, which took forever, and didn't really get a chance to practice Kendo. Aparrantly last year's committee were awful at record-keeping and we've lost a good amount of club armour because people never returned them/felt the deposit they left behind was well worth the kit (it is). This year we plan to be much more organised, starting with a proper database of all the club members. I never realised how much admin stuff and organisation goes into running a club - obvoiusly I know there's a lot of work, but to be in on every single teeny detail is quite a new thing.

Ahaha, so yeah, I already made a great start (irony) on being the secretary. After our initial meeting we decided to extend it a little just so we can sort out things there and then but one of the committee member had already entered the dojo and was starting to practice. I had to go to fetch back him but I made the mistake of going too late because by the time I entered the dojo, everyone was already in armour and I had no idea who was who! It was all rather embarrassing and involved me running around peering through their helmets. Not cool.

I finished watching Lovely Complex. It was a really sweet and endearing story and made me all girly and mushy for a while. Also, from a completely different anime, hot damn Zero (Vampire Knight) is sexy!

OMG so I just discovered the anime, Lovely Complex, and that it is all spoken in Kansai-ben! Amaaazing. I love that dialect so much. It'll make understanding a little tougher but it's so fun to listen to XD I don't usually like shoujo anime but this one looks promising.

I feel like I am suffering from information overload. I find myself covering new things everyday, panics at the fact that said new things may have shoved old stuff out of my head, then leafing feverishly through my old notes to remind myself of what I've forgotten. It's kind of like my brain is a external hardrive with limited storage space so that I have to constantly shift the data inside, deleting old material to make room for new ones.

It doesn't help either that I am getting so bored of revising. My college collection is on the 18th and I have two papers to do: Evolution and Systematics plus Animal Behaviour, both of which are 3 hours each, which means I will have written a total of 8 friggin' essays by the end of the day. Still I did find some topics interesting. It'll be a shame to drop Animals next year because I find some of the topics covered really fascinating but I just can't see myself doing it as a major subject, nor see how it will help if I do decide to persue my oh-so-vague graduate medicine path.

Actually, I totally know why I am having hard time revising. It is a combination of lack of self-discipline (totally lost it after getting into uni), the presence of my laptop in front of me (but I need it to check wikipedia!), and my constantly surfing through journals, and I don't mean the scientific type.

Oh and another reason - because I keep wanting to draw. I suppose I could call it 'getting out of the system'
